What We Know about Avengers Endgame So Far

This week the Avengers: Endgame trailer became the most viewed trailer of all time when it got 289 million views in just 24 hours. While fans were on the fence about the trailer (wanting more) we did get a title finally. Which most of us weren’t really that surprised about either. Avengers: Endgame hits theaters April 26, 2019. (That was the second surprise from the trailer drop.)

The trailer didn’t give fans much, in fact, it left us asking so many questions. One thing is clear though, the pieces are being put back together in Endgame. While the Russo brothers tried to throw fans off by saying that the name wasn’t spoken in Infinity War, that wasn’t true. If you recall, it wasn’t just spoke in Inifity War by Dr. Strange, it was also said by Tony Stark in Age of Ultron.

Who’s going to rescue Stark and Nebula?

Tony Stark records a message to Pepper Potts from Peter Quill’s Ravager ship called the Benatar.

Just for the record, being adrift with zero promise of RESCUE is more fun than it sounds.

Tony Stark

While I originally thought it would be Carol Danvers Captain Marvel rescuing he old friend (in the comics) it looks like it will be Pepper Potts that comes to save Tony Stark as Rescue. We got a sneak peak at her outfit here.

Missing after the snap

There were some revelations about possible victims of the snap though. For a brief moment, we see Bruce Banner looking over the missing people. Our beloved Shuri is listed on the screen and fans everywhere were instantly wounded.

It’s interesting that Black Widow says that Thanos wiped out 50 percent of all living creatures so that you’re aware that this goes way past just humans but also aliens throughout the universe.

  1. Bucky Barnes Winter Soldier
  2. Black Panther
  3. Groot
  4. Scarlet Witch

  16. Shuri
Shuri is missing!

This scene is straight out of The Infinity Gauntlet comic where Captain America looks over a list of disappeared with She-Hulk, Vision, and Thor.

The end of Captain America?

Captain America has lost his beard (RIP Nomad) and pulled out the Winter Soldier outfit which leads fans to believe that the aspect that time travel will play a valuable role in the plot to save half the population. We also see Cap holding a picture of Peggy Carter in his compass. He pulls it out when he is about to do something crazy, like I don’t know, crash into an iceberg and become a Capsicle for a few decades.

Another interesting fan theory is that with Endgame dealing with time travel Peggy Carter could make an appearance. (Be still my heart. This would be the best surprise ever!)

This is the fight of our lives.

Captain America

With Avengers: Endgame being Chris Evans’ last Marvel film (I’m not crying I swear) it wouldn’t be a shock if this is one of those drastic moves that Cap does to save the universe. If you’re going to go out, might as well go out with a massive bang.

Farmer Thanos

Another aspect pulled from The Infinity Gauntlet comics is that Farmer Thanos is spending his time enjoying the simple life. With a few major differences. The Infinity Gauntlet is still attached to Thanos’ hand in the Endgame trailer. Burnt to his hand really. And the absence of Adam Warlock, more on that later.

There have been rumors circulating that Thanos is farming from inside the Soul Stone which I can see in theory because of the visual colors of the area that he is shown, but I don’t think this theory is sound. After the snap, Thanos is seen within the stone with a child Gamora and no Infinity Gauntlet. After speaking with Gamora he is back on Earth. Then Thanos leaves Earth after the snap through a portal via the Space Stone. Unless Thanos purposefully enters the Soul Stone, I think he is hanging out on Gamora’s home planet mourning her death. In the comics, he is on an unnamed planet which could also be true. We may never know.

The name “Ronin” refers to the Japanese term for a masterless samurai, a lone warrior. It is an alias that has been used by multiple Marvel characters (Echo, Logan) but in this instant Hawkeye (Clint Barton) has taken on the role from The New Avengers. He takes on the role of Ronin after a traumatic experience.

In the trailer, Clint is shown right when Cap says, “We lost family. We lost a part of ourselves.” So it’s safe to assume that he lost his entire family in the snap and has turned to this persona to coup.

Ant-Man is safe

Last we saw Scott Lang he was floating in the quantum realm as he collected healing particles for their new friend Ghost. Right before he returns, Hope and her parents are dusted leaving him stranded.

So how did he get out and show up at the Avengers front gate? Laurence Fishburne eluded to this during an interview from Ant-Man and the Wasp. Saying that Dr. Bill Foster (Goliath) is really the only one left that knows about the quantum realm.

He also shows up at the front gate with the van that is carrying the quantum tunnel. The same tunnel that Janet Van Dyne warned Scott to be careful not to get sucked into a time vortex because they won’t be able to save him.

Tweets from the Russo Brothers

If you look closely in the “Look hard…” tweet in the far left hand side you see part of the Iron Man Proton Cannon which also makes an appearance behind Rhody in the lab during Infinity War.

Who’s still alive?

These are the characters we see at the end of Infinity War that were spared by the snap.

  1. Captain America
  2. Iron Man
  3. Black Widow
  4. Clint Barton Hawkeye/Ronin
  5. Scott Lang Ant-Man
  6. Rhody War Machine
  7. Bruce Banner Hulk
  8. Rocket
  9. Thor
  10. Nebula
  11. Okoye
  12. M’Baku

Who died?

So who died before the snap?

  1. Vision – Future Unknown
  2. Loki – Future unknown
  3. Heimdall – Future unknown
  4. Gamora – Presumed to be trapped in the Soul Stone

Who knows!

These are characters that we never saw dusted (or killed) or even appeared in Avengers: Infinity War.

  1. Wong
  2. Valkyrie
  3. Pepper Potts
  4. Korg
  5. Nakia
  6. W’Kabi
  7. Everett Ross
  8. Eitri
  9. The Collector

Final thoughts and theories about Avengers: Endgame

I think whoever is left of the Avengers are going to travel back in time with the quantum tunnel traveling through a time vortex to stop Thanos before he gets either the stones or maybe even the Infinity Gauntlet. (Fake Infinity Gauntlet we saw in Thor: Ragnarok anyone?)

Captain America is going to sacrifice himself to save the universe.

Everyone who was “dusted” is actually in the Soul Stone and will be released, including Gamora who we know for a fact was in there because Thanos spoke to her after the snap.

Thanos is hanging out on Gamora’s home planet “just trying to live the simple life” like he was in the comics.

For those that died (with the exception of Gamora) I’m HOPING will be saved by the time travel aspect but honestly I’m not sure. If Captain America is the only loss from the War it would be a huge stretch for the franchise. I’m just not ready to see them gone forever.

What I would like to see play out….Nebula getting the Gauntlet from Thanos to prove him wrong about being weak.

And the most far-fetched idea is that we finally get to see is Adam Warlock, who was first introduced during a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 end credits seen in his birthing pod.

In the comics, Adam Warlock is a central part of the Infinity Gauntlet story and while there have been some saying he won’t make an appearance, is it really that far-reaching to think he would? Does Marvel throw out random characters in end credit scenes that we never hear or see again? I wouldn’t think so.

Last but not least…In Memory of Stan Lee. The moment the theater will erupt in cheers and tears.

Congrats on making it to the end with me, you’re clearly a true fan.
